Heather Weger is both Georgetown graduate and Georgetown faculty. As an Associate Teaching Professor, her work has centered around the educational experience of multilingual students from over 20 countries studying at Georgetown. Her first teaching position was on the Hilltop Campus in the Center for Language Development and Education. In 2018, she transitioned to the Capitol Campus, where is currently a unicorn – being a linguist educator partnering with lawyers through the Center for Legal English. Exploring the intersection of language and law, her curriculum design philosophy anchors content in interactive, asset-based, student-focused practices that reflect the social and co-constructed nature of student-faculty ecosystems. In addition to her work in the classroom, she maintains a robust service and research platform in the wider language-education profession, including presentations at both legal and language conferences. She engages in multiple professional communities and is a Language Specialist for the U.S. State Department. Currently she is co-writing a book (with colleague Dr. Julie Lake) on a framework for empowering multilingual law students (when she isn't chasing her children, ages 7 and 9). Dr. Weger earned a Ph.D. in applied linguistics and Masters in bilingual education from Georgetown University, a Masters in higher education administration from the University of Oklahoma, and her undergraduate from Washington University (St. Louis, Missouri).
